S.O.A.P Bible Study Plan

Find a quiet time and space to read your Bible, preferably at the same time each day.  Many people find that reading scripture in the morning helps get their day off to a focused start.  The following gives you steps to your daily Bible reading.

Scripture:  What does it say?

Take today's Bible reading, pray over it and then read through slowly.  God will direct your attention to certain verses or sections.  As you read, underline the words, phrases or verses that stand out or catch your attention.

Observation:  What does it mean?

What is God showing you in this passage?  Jot down in your journal any words or events that stand out.  Are there any truths God wants you to learn?  Warnings?  Commands?  Guiding principles?  Record those in your journal.  Now what is the overall message God has for you in this passage?

Application:  What am I supposed to do about it?

Now it's time to get personal and apply it into your life.  If we live out the Word of God in our lives, our lives will be transformed.  How does this affect your life?  Does God have instruction for you today?  Encouragement?  Correction?  Write down some action points on how you intend to apply this to your life.

Prayer:  How do I specifically pray about what it says, means and what I'm supposed to do?

Prayer is a two-way conversation with God.  You may find that as you pray over what God has shown you, He will reveal even more that He is wanting to show.  Ask God to help you live out what you have learned.  It's that simple!
