John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The entire gospel comes to a focus in this verse. God’s love is not static or self centered; it reaches out and draws others in. Here, God sets the pattern of true love, the basis for all love relationships when you love someone dearly; you are willing to give freely to the point of self sacrifice. God paid dearly with the life of his Son, the highest price he could pay. Jesus accepted our punishment, paid the price for our sins, and then offered us the new life that he had bought for us. When we share the gospel with others, our love must be like Jesus, willingly giving up our own comfort and security so that others might join us in receiving God’s love.
It’s hard to believe that a year has come and gone and it’s December again. As I reflect upon this past year, I am elated for the most part but saddened by some of the daily challenges we each must face. Thank God for Jesus and the power of the blood. Without it, many of us would be lost. For those who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, I am particularly saddened, challenged and commanded, to make sure that the unadulterated gospel goes forth, and that we are faithful in honoring the Great Commandment (Mark 12:30-31)) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). As we enter this holiday season, I would ask that you remain prayerful and ever mindful of the fact that Jesus is the reason for season.
Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is a must have resource I am recommending that you pick up and read. In it, he shares the principles, practices, and priorities of a winning life. He tells his story of a life lived for God and others, and challenges us to rethink what it means to be a winner. I’m reading it now and will share my perspective on it in the January Blog.
