Comments regarding the inaugural issue were encouraging. Praise the Lord. I would ask that you remain in prayer for me as I undertake this undefined, uncharted literary journey. I’m confident that if I don’t try to get ahead of the work God is doing in and through me, his purpose in having me write this Blog will come forth loud and clear.

I’m about half way through a book called 7 Questions of A Promise Keeper by Tom Fortson (President of Promise Keepers) and Hank Hanegraaff (President of Christian Research Institute (CRI) and Host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast). Bruce W. Fong, Ph.D – President, Michigan Theological Seminary provided this commentary in the forward of the book: “Fortson and Hanegraaff have captured my attention. They asked me the right question that gave me pause in an overly busy life. That hesitation was then filled with a series of questions that followed an intriguing sequence. If you have felt stuck in life fearful that you were headed toward a mediocre subsistence, or wondered if your endless activities really made a noticeable difference in the lives of others, or secretly begged God to scratch your unreachable itch for personal significance, then you will want to read this book. It will put you in a conversation of great discovery through great questions. Then you will be well on your way to a deeply satisfying and significant life as a man determined to keep his promises and to enjoy the subsequent fruit that God gives.”

Two things struck a cord with me in the aforementioned. I’ve definitely experienced the feeling of being stuck in life fearful I was headed for a mediocre life subsistence, not to mention wondering if my endless activities have made a difference in the lives of others. But if not for His grace and the truth of His testimony, I’d be lost. I’ll share my take on the book in the November Blog.

There are a couple of events that are coming up later this month that you won’t want to miss. On October 21, a group of us will be traveling to Port Charlotte to an Iron Sharpens Iron Conference. For details check out the Men’s Ministry page on our website @ www.northwoodbc.org. On October 28, we will be holding our 1st Annual Golf Tournament. You don’t want to miss this one. For more details, check the website or the church bulletin.

Let me leave you with this scripture from Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. “ “There is a vast difference between knowing someone well and being a true friend. The greatest evidence of genuine friendship is loyalty (see 1 Corinthians 13:7) being available to help in times of distress or personal struggles. Too many people are fair-weather friends. They stick around when the friendship helps them and leave when they’re not getting anything out of the relationship. Think of your friends and assess your loyalty to them. Be the kind of true friend the Bible encourages.”
