Discovery Steps
The Discovery Steps is designed to assist in the development of new and current church members. Discovery Steps consist of four components:
Discovery 101 – Membership Class gives you a better understanding of the expectations and beliefs of The Village Baptist Church. It gives you a brief history of The Village Baptist Church, a better understanding of Southern Baptist, our purpose, mission and message along with our beliefs and expectations.
Discovery 201 – As with coming into physical maturity, growing in spiritual maturity is a process over time. As a church, we are here to help you through that process. Discovery 201 is a four week series dedicated to developing the “four habits of a disciple:
- Spending daily time in God’s Word
- Spending daily time with God in prayer
- Giving back to God
- Fellowship with other believers
You will learn not only what these good habits are, but also how to develop them and keep them in your life!
Discovery 301 – In Discovery 201, you learn how to express your faith through serving Christ. The focus is on understanding your unique spiritual gifts and in finding the area of ministry for which God has designed you. The SHAPE acronym is followed to help you understand how your

Experiences
All combine to make you so very special.
As you discover your spiritual gifts, you will learn how your gifts are used to meet the needs of others, all to God’s glory! With this comes the end of fear and frustration, and the beginning of fulfillment in living the Christian life.
Discovery 401 – We are called to be “on-mission” for Christ and to develop another-centered point of view to look at this lost world as God sees it. Discovery 401 equips the believer with session topics:
- Discovering my mission – where you will better understand God’s purpose in creating us, and how Jesus’ mission here on earth must matter to us
- Sharing the message – Each of us has a story of how Jesus impacted our life. The goal here is to learn to share it effectively and persuasively. Discover the excitement of learning how you story can be used to bring others to Christ!
- Fishing in my mission pond – If we are to be “fishers of men”, this is where we learn to think like a fish
- Becoming a world-class Christian. Think globally and act locally as you discover what God is doing around the world, and how you can be a part of it right where you are!
